Image Processing in Catadioptric Planes: Spatiotemporal Derivatives and Optical Flow Computation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Images produced by catadioptric sensors contain a significant amount of radial distortion and variation in inherent scale. Blind application of conventional shift-invariant operators or optical flow estimators yields erroneous results. One could argue that given a calibration of such a sensor we would always be able to remove distortions and apply any operator in a local perspective plane. In addition to the inefficiency of such an approach, interpolation effects during warping have undesired results in filtering. In this paper, we propose to use the sphere as the underlying domain of image processing in central catadioptric systems. This does not mean that we will warp the catadioptric image into a spherical image. Instead, we will formulate all the operations on the sphere but use the samples from the original catadioptric plane. As an example, we study the convolution with the Gaussian and its derivatives and as well as the computation of optical flow in image sequences acquired with a parabolic catadioptric sensor.

Computation Optical Flow Using Pipeline Architecture
Accurate estimation of motion from time-varying imagery has been a popular problem in vision studies, This information can be used in segmentation, 3D motion and shape recovery, target tracking, and other problems in scene analysis and interpretation. We have presented a dynamic image model for estimating image motion from image sequences, and have shown how the solution can be obtained from a ...
متن کاملStatistical Biases in Optic Flow
The computation of optical ow from image derivatives is biased in regions of non uniform gradient distributions. A least-squares or total least squares approach to computing optic ow from image derivatives even in regions of consistent ow can lead to a systematic bias dependent upon the direction of the optic ow, the distribution of the gradient directions, and the distribution of the image noi...
متن کاملMotion Feature Detection Using Steerable Flow Fields
The estimation and detection of occlusion boundaries and moving bars are important and challenging problems in image sequence analysis. Here, we model such motion features as linear combinations of steerable basis flow fields. These models constrain the interpretation of image motion, and are used in the same way as translational or affine motion models. We estimate the subspace coefficients of...
متن کاملOmni Flow
Catadioptric omnidirectional sensors (catadioptric cameras) capture instantaneous images with panoramic 360◦ field of view. Entire surroundings are projected via a circularly symmetrical mirror onto the image. Nothing disappears from view even when objects move and the robot rotates. Therefore, catadioptric cameras are very effective in dynamic visual guidance applications such as tracking of o...
متن کاملChoosing the Optimal Neighbourhood Size in Optical Flow Problems with Errors-in-Variables Modelling
This paper brings together two research issues in optical flow estimation: the selection of the smoothing parameter and the proper treatment of the correlated noise in the partial derivatives of the image intensity. In previous work, the authors have developed an optical flow estimation method which properly treats the errors-invariables problem cause by the correlated noise in the spatiotempor...
